Frequency Assignment – Models and Algorithms
نویسنده
چکیده
Wireless connections are established by the use of a transmitter which is sending radio waves at a specific frequencies to a receiver. Nowadays, due to the variety of different services, only a restricted part of the radio spectrum is available. The set of available frequencies for a provider of a wireless communication service is limited even further by concurrent providers and local frequency blockings. To overcome this shortage, frequencies are used simultaneously by many connections. However, if multiple signals are transmitted at the same or close by frequencies, these signals may interfer the dedicated signal a receiver is listening to, resulting in a loss of quality at the recieving end of the connection. Therefore, the allocation of frequencies to wireless connections is a task that has to be carried out very carefully, in order to avoid, or second best, to minimize interference in the network. This task is known as “frequency assignment” or “channel assignment”.

Different Network Performance Measures in a Multi-Objective Traffic Assignment Problem
Traffic assignment algorithms are used to determine possible use of paths between origin-destination pairs and predict traffic flow in network links. One of the main deficiencies of ordinary traffic assignment methods is that in most of them one measure (mostly travel time) is usually included in objective function and other effective performance measures in traffic assignment are not considere...
متن کاملAn Alternative Approach to Centroids and Connectors Pattern: Random Intra-Zonal Travel Time
In traditional traffic assignment procedure, each traffic analysis zone is represented by one point in its geometric center which is connected to the network by several connectors. Results of studies show that different connector patterns would result up to 10% change in estimated volume and up to 20% change in total travel time. Also the different patterns of connectors can change the priority...
متن کاملFrequency Assignment Problems
The ever growing number of wireless communications systems deployed around the globe have made the optimal assignment of a limited radio frequency spectrum a problem of primary importance. At issue are planning models for permanent spectrum allocation, licensing, regulation, and network design. Further at issue are on-line algorithms for dynamically assigning frequencies to users within an esta...
متن کاملMathematical Programming Models for Solving Unequal-Sized Facilities Layout Problems - a Generic Search Method
This paper present unequal-sized facilities layout solutions generated by a genetic search program named LADEGA (Layout Design using a Genetic Algorithm). The generalized quadratic assignment problem requiring pre-determined distance and material flow matrices as the input data and the continuous plane model employing a dynamic distance measure and a material flow matrix are discussed. Computa...
متن کاملSolving a multi-objective mixed-model assembly line balancing and sequencing problem
This research addresses the mixed-model assembly line (MMAL) by considering various constraints. In MMALs, several types of products which their similarity is so high are made on an assembly line. As a consequence, it is possible to assemble and make several types of products simultaneously without spending any additional time. The proposed multi-objective model considers the balancing and sequ...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
